Rookie Chapter of the Year

The Tar Heel Junior Historian Association began the Rookie Chapter of the Year award in 1991 to recognize new junior historian chapters that exhibit enthusiasm for the association’s goals of promoting local and state history. This year’s winning club attended a variety of archaeological programs offered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and others as part of the chapter’s studies of North Carolina’s American Indians. Through these activities and others, students learned about varied topics like bows and arrows, sites where American Indians have lived, pottery, and trading paths. Junior historians submitted entries for several THJHA contests and proved very successful for a first-year club. The 2010 Rookie Chapter of the Year is Homeschool History Hunters, Lewis School, Chapel Hill, Michelle Lewis, adviser.
