The museum offers museum tours, on-site picnicking, tourist information, and a regional history video. Please contact the museum at 828-668-9259 or mgm@ncdcr.gov for additional information or information about upcoming programs.

Mountain Gateway Museum hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sunday 2–5 p.m., and Monday Noon–5 p.m.

Second Saturdays at Mountain Gateway!

  • Saturday, June 11, 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Trout Fishing in Mountain Heritage Trout Waters

    Come by the museum for the first installment in our 2nd Saturday summer program series. Mill Creek, which runs right through the front yard of the Mountain Gateway Museum was recently designated Mountain Heritage Trout Waters.

    To celebrate we are offering several activities:

    Members of Table Rock Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be on hand doing fly tying demos, equipment demos, casting lessons.

    NC Wildlife Resources Commission Biologist will be on-site for trout/stream life education, trout program education, fishing demos and assistance for new fishermen/women.

    Artists and craftsmen on site showing and selling wares.

    Tackle will be available for one day loan.

    Forestry

    This year is the 100th Anniversary of The Weeks Act. Did you know that this important piece of conservation legislation enabled Old Fort to purchase Curtis Creek? Learn about the history behind our forests.

    Farm Day
    Come celebrate North Carolina farms at this Second Saturday event. Shop for organic and local foods, see some farm animals in action, and watch machinery demonstrations.
