July brings free programs for all ages at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. Watch potters from North Cole Pottery in Sanford demonstrate their craft on July 10. They are featured as part of the 2nd Saturdays series taking place across North Carolina.

Catch a showing of “Friends in Liberty: North Carolina in the American Revolution,” a film produced by the museum that follows the experiences of 14-year-old Hugh McDonald and his friend, Anne Taylor.

During History à la Carte: The Show Must Go On! hear about actors, circus performers, vaudeville jugglers and others during the Depression. Learn about North Carolina’s role in the Federal Theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration.

There’s all this and more in July at the N.C. Museum of History. Weekend parking is free.

Programs

First Friday Film: “Friends in Liberty: North Carolina in the American Revolution”
Friday, July 2
6-7 p.m.

Experience the American Revolution through the eyes of 14-year-old Hugh McDonald and his friend, Anne Taylor. The film is based on the original journal of McDonald, who joined the Sixth North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army in 1776. 

History Corner: New Deal Foods

During the Great Depression, times were tough. Find out how North Carolina families kept food on the table, hear a short story, and taste Depression-era foods. This program is presented with Cameron Village Regional Library.

Watch bowls, vases and other clay objects take shape on a wheel as potters from North Cole Pottery in Sanford demonstrate their craft.
