The North Carolina Museum of History Foundation is a nonprofit fund-raising organization with IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The foundation was established in 2004 with initial contributions from longtime Museum of History supporters George and Nancy Lyles and their daughters Nan Kester and Lee Webster, of High Point. A second founding gift was made by Branch Banking and Trust (BB&T) Charitable Foundation in honor of Hector MacLean, of Lumberton, also a long-standing supporter of the museum and a man whose family ties are intertwined with North Carolina’s rich history.
The foundation supports the Division of State History Museums, especially the flagship institution of the division, the North Carolina Museum of History. The organization seeks to raise significant funds through private-sector contributions, the corpus of which will be held in perpetuity and invested for the purpose of providing a reliable source of financial support for the museum’s initiatives. This support includes, but is not limited to, artifact acquisition and conservation, exhibitions, educational programming, and capital improvements.
Since the IRS recognizes the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, contributions are deductible for income tax purposes to the extent allowed by law. The foundation welcomes contributions in any amount, including honoraria and memorial gifts. Donations to the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation may be sent to the attention of Heyward H. McKinney, North Carolina Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. For more information, please call 919-807-7871, or visit the Museum of History website www.ncmuseumofhistory.org.
