My family and I are wrapping up a 4-month, 18,000-mile, 48-state road trip. We've seen a lot of museums. This was, hands down, the best museum we've seen. And the least expensive (it's free)! Curators from all over the world should be visiting this Raleigh museum for advice on how to engage visitors young and old. The breadth of periods and the depth of each will have me revisiting this history museum again and again.
This museum was way more than I dreamed it would be!!! Absolutely first class and it covered this state’s history in such a way that my grandchildren were not ready to leave until we had seen everything!! The gentleman showing household and medical instruments from earlier days was so very interesting and we wished he had more to share.
So much for a quick stopover. I came here while driving back home to NJ to stretch my legs and check out the WWI exhibit. Three hours later I was still here. The WWI exhibit is excellent and the best I have seen outside of Europe itself. Their permanent display on NC history is very detailed and extensive, covering pre-European to the modern age.
