Presenters: Charles Knight, Military Curator, NC Museum of History, and Earl Ijames, Curator of African American History, NC Museum of History
More than 1 million African Americans served in uniform during World War II, including nearly 70,000 North Carolinians. In partnership with the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the NC Museum of History has created a traveling exhibit—“We Wanted to Fight”: Black North Carolinians in World War II—that recounts the often-overlooked wartime accomplishments of these veterans. Curators Charles Knight and Earl Ijames will share some of the stories of service and sacrifice from this new exhibit, which runs Feb. 1–28, 2022, at the museum.
