Film Screening: Remarkable Journey: Founding the Asian Indian Community in North Carolina

Sunday, November 5, 3 p.m.

Speaker: Steven Channing, Director and Coproducer

Through lively first-person stories, this documentary and educational film project explores the pioneer generation of immigrants from India, people who are now our neighbors across North Carolina. These energetic newcomers, from one of the world’s great cultures, have helped fuel the expansion of opportunities in science and business in our region, while meeting the challenges of passing the “essence of India” on to their children.

Remarkable Journey also portrays the deep multiculturalism that has allowed India to survive and grow over the past 5,000 years—in part, the story of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Jews, and others, all living and working together, a vision that is often contrary to the conflict and bigotry faced in America. A panel discussion will follow the film screening.

Presented with Video Dialog Inc. and the Southern Documentary Fund.
