Film Screening: Super Mario Bros.

Friday, Dec. 7, 5–9:30 p.m.

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of this made-in-NC classic, the first live-action film adapted from the goals, obstacles, and characters in a video game. In the film, brothers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo), two Brooklyn plumbers, work to rescue archaeologist Daisy (Samantha Mathis) from evil King Koopa (Dennis Hopper)—in a parallel dimension. Made at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, the film’s special effects were notably innovative for the time. Ryan Hoss, “super” fan and archivist for the film, and others will host a talkback after the film.
