Time Machine Workshops: Baking from History—Old-Fashioned Tea Cakes

Thursday, Oct. 22, 1–2 p.m. via Zoom

Presenters: Mimi Herman, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, 2017 Piedmont Laureate; Nancy Pennington, Youth and Family Programs Coordinator, North Carolina Museum of History

Learn history by baking something old-fashioned the old-fashioned way. The recipe you’ll follow to make these delicious little tea cakes—which are actually cookies—truly dates to 1756! While our tea cakes are baking, we’ll take a journey through time to discover how recipes have changed over the years.

This virtual weekly series for individual children and families is designed to help ages 8 and up learn history through activities.
