North Carolina’s Original Bill of Rights

Sunday, June 29 through Sunday, July 7

Did you know that North Carolina has its own Bill of Rights? This document has a dramatic story— it was stolen from the State Capitol by a Union soldier in 1865 and recovered in an FBI sting operation almost 150 years later!

Rarely removed from the State Archives’ climate-controlled vault, this artifact will be displayed in our small lobby case for 8 days, from June 29 through July 7. Don’t miss your chance to view this important piece of state history!
