Pirate Fest Directions and Parking


The North Carolina Museum of History is located in downtown Raleigh—between the State Capitol and the Legislative Building on Jones Street—at 5 East Edenton Street (between Salisbury and Wilmington Streets). The main entrance faces Bicentennial Plaza and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. The museum’s main phone number is 919-807-7900.

FROM the NORTH or EAST: Take the Capital Boulevard exit off I-440 north of Raleigh. Follow the Capital Boulevard (Downtown) designation. Continue south approximately two miles and turn left onto Jones Street. Go three blocks. The museum is on the right.

FROM the WEST or SOUTH: Take the Person Street exit off I-40. Proceed north for two miles. Turn left onto Edenton Street. Go three blocks. The museum is ahead on the right.


Four public parking decks are located within two blocks of the museum, and a surface lot is located in the block east of the museum (enter off Jones Street or Edenton Street); note that hourly charges may apply during business hours on Mondays through Fridays, but these spaces are generally free on weekends, after 5 p.m., and on state government holidays (note that the museum is open on most state government holidays). In addition, metered parking is available in the area and is free after hours and on weekends.

Charter Buses, Passenger Vans, and RVs
Buses and large passenger vehicles may park in a designated lot available at the southeast corner of Blount and Jones Streets (two blocks east of the Museum of History) is designated as bus parking while space permits (enter off Jones Street after crossing Blount Street).
