History + Highballs is an early-evening adults-only virtual program designed to investigate some of North Carolina’s more fascinating stories, places, and characters. So grab a favorite evening libation and tune in to these events. Not sure how to make a mixed drink or what drink to mix? The series includes a quick introduction on mixed drinks, alongside the historical lecture.


The North Carolina Museum of History, located in downtown Raleigh, provides occasional internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students looking for experience in museums.

Longleaf Film Festival

Film, Fun, and Community! Watch movies, meet filmmakers, and enjoy popcorn for free! Be part of our sixth annual Longleaf Film Festival at the Museum of History in downtown Raleigh. Multiple screenings, Movies-N-Moonlight, socials, panels, awards, a Wrap Party: Longleaf! Hosted by the North Carolina Museum of History, Longleaf Film Festival highlights the best of historic and contemporary stories through narrative and documentary features and shorts.

The North Carolina Museum of History brims with historical treasures from across the state. With the help of volunteer docents who lead guided tours and hands-on Discovery Tours, these treasures come to life for thousands of people every year, adding a personal touch to their museum visit. Experience the fun of interpreting the past to children and adults by giving weekday or weekend tours.

Is speaking to groups not your thing? Other options include assisting with clerical projects, helping develop educational programs, and chipping away at any number of other behind-the-scenes projects. Our volunteers are some of the museum's greatest treasures.
