The 2021 THJHA Annual Convention will be a virtual event on Friday, April 30. Student contest entries should be submitted online by Friday, April 2.

The 2021 THJHA Virtual Annual Convention is using the webinar platform Demio for livestreaming presentations throughout the event. You must register for each presentation to watch them, so if your club is participating in the entire event there will be four sessions to register for. Click on the hyperlinks in the schedule below to register for each session. Workshops I and II are not repeats of the same presentation.

Friday, April 30, 2021 THJHA Annual Convention Schedule

9:50–10:10 a.m.: Opening Ceremony, all clubs


10:15–10:45 a.m.: Workshop I




10:50–11:20 a.m.:  Workshop II




11:35 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Wrights of Passage performance followed by Contest Awards Announcement, all clubs

Registration for the Convention is completely free and takes only a moment. You will need to enter your first name, email address, club or school name, county, and the total

number of people watching the presentation. Demio requires no software or application download. You will receive an email with a UNIQUE JOIN LINK to the session. This link is not shareable and only one device may use this link to watch at one time.  On the day of the event, click on the JOIN button or your unique join link in the email and you will go directly to the session. Demio works best on Chrome or Firefox browsers and does NOT work well on Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer. If you are experiencing difficulties, try opening your session on a different browser.

Viewers do not have microphone or camera access so there are no student privacy concerns. You and your club members may ask questions or interact with presenters using the CHAT function.

Clubs with members that will participate in the Convention together using one screen or for Advisers who will share their screen to a live meet with their students: Adviser will register for each time slot once for the entire group.

Clubs with members participating individually: Just to clarify, Demio registration links CANNOT be shared, for security purposes.  Advisers please share this registration page with the students and their families and have them register for each time slot. The email that they use to register should be one they can access from the device they plan to view the event from.

Each spring, the North Carolina Museum of History hosts the THJHA Annual Convention. Hundreds of junior historians from across the state gather for a fun, interesting, and educational day of hands-on workshops and activities. The day also includes the announcement of the winners of THJHA Annual Contests and Awards.
Junior historians can participate in THJHA Annual Contests that include Artifact Search; Christopher Crittenden State History Quiz; Exhibit (Art); NC Historic Architecture Photography; Historical Essay (four themes); Literary; and Video Documentary. Awards offered include Adviser of the Year; Chapter of the Year; Rookie Chapter of the Year; Genealogy; History in Action; Sports History; and Youth Preservation. Winners are showcased in the THJHA exhibit at the museum.
