For Adults

Weekends and evenings are all about our adult visitors. These gatherings and programs are always growing to meet the expectations of our lifelong learners.

Music of the Carolinas

Since 1998, PineCone and the North Carolina Museum of History have partnered to present Music of the Carolinas, a series of free concerts featuring some of the state's finest folk musicians and tradition bearers.

These concerts take place in the museum's Daniels Auditorium on the second Sunday of each month between October and June. In addition to live performances, this series utilizes program notes, lecture-demos, and film screenings, to educate audiences about various musical traditions in North Carolina. PineCone co-presents this series along with the North Carolina Museum of History.

History à la Carte

History à la Carte is a series of 50-minute informal lectures about a variety of historical topics—come learn about the Civil War, North Carolina pottery, the lost colonists, and famous North Carolinians! You bring your lunch, we provide the drinks! Find the next talk on our event calendar.

Lectures and Symposiums

Become a lifelong learner! The museum offers opportunities for history enthusiasts to learn through a variety of lectures and symposiums throughout the year. Check out our event calendar for upcoming programming.

Volunteer

The North Carolina Museum of History brims with historical treasures from across the state. With the help of volunteer docents who lead guided tours and hands-on Discovery Tours, these treasures come to life for thousands of people every year, adding a personal touch to their museum visit. Experience the fun of interpreting the past to children and adults by giving weekday or weekend tours.

Is speaking to groups not your thing? Other options include assisting with clerical projects, helping develop educational programs, and chipping away at any number of other behind-the-scenes projects.

Our volunteers are some of the museum's greatest treasures. For more information click here.

The North Carolina Museum of History, located in downtown Raleigh, provides occasional internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students looking for experience in museums. For more information click here.
