Financial assistance is available to those who otherwise could not participate in a museum program. Each scholarship awarded covers $75 towards camp registration costs. The remaining $25 and any associated fees, such as lunchtime care, would be the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
A scholarship committee will consider each request individually. Early-bird registration for museum members/Associates begins February 15, 2016; general registration begins March 1, 2016. Scholarship requests are considered and awarded on a first-come, first-served, rolling basis. Anyone interested in nominating a child for a need-based scholarship to one of the museum’s summer camps should submit the following information:
- A completed registration form for the camp they are interested in attending.
- Two letters of request/support for nominating a child for a scholarship. One letter must be submitted by a parent. The other letter must be submitted by a non-related teacher, friend, clergy member, or other adult. The letters should outline why financial assistance is necessary; why the child would like to attend a summer camp; and how the child would benefit from the camp.
- An additional letter from the nominated child, if they are completing grades 3 through 8, explaining why they are interested in attending a camp at the North Carolina Museum of History.
- Any other supporting materials the nominating adult thinks the scholarship committee should review. No financial records are required for consideration.
Materials should be mailed to:
