Turtle Necklace

Pendant made in the shape of a turtle, with a beaded ribbon chain
Artifact # 2018_33_2a, Circa 2015

This necklace was created by Haliwa-Saponi artist Senora Lynch, circa 2015. It features a clay turtle pendent with a bead and bone strap and leather clasp.

Lynch is a nationally-recognized artist and a 2007 North Carolina Heritage Award winner. Her pottery often uses flora and fauna to promote a deeper understanding of indigenous history. The turtle, Lynch's favorite animal, can be found in many of her pieces because it symbolizes Mother Earth and represents long life.
