Handwritten 1795 North Carolina land grant for 5,000 acres issued to Benjamin Smith.

No 408. Know Ye that We have granted unto Benjamin Smith Five Thousand Acres of Land in our Western District on the forked Deer River Beginning at a large leaning Sycamore marked IR and gum on the East bank of the river near the mouth at a small branch and at the falls of the first bluff from the mouth of said river said Smiths Griffiths Rutherford and Martin Armstrongs Corner, runs with said Armstrongs line North One hundred and Sixty Chains to a Sassafras and Sweet Gum marked IR then West three hundred and twelve and a half chains to a Stake, then South One hundred and Sixty Chains to a Stake, then with said Smiths line East to the Begining To Hold to the said Benjamin Smith his Heirs and Assigns for ever dated the 9th of Jan.y 1795
